The official cat of the state of Maine, a Maine coon is a larger than usual domestic house cat. They are thought to be the descendants of cats accompanying Vikings. They are very distinctive and have amazing hunting skills.

They have become very popular with their appeal because they can easily be trained and are exceptionally friendly and furry. They tend to get along with everyone, including dogs and children. Because they are so friendly and large, they can often be affectionately called gentle giants.
They can be cared for like any other cat with good nutritious food, a bowl of clean water, and a litter box.

However, they need more exercise, so play with them regularly and don’t let them become lonely. It is also a good idea to set up scratching posts to sharpen their claws.
