I had a female tabby Manx cat. I found out that a female tabby is pretty rare, as most tabbies are male. Precious lived for 18 years, and was a wonderful pet! Even went camping with me.

I have owned Manx cats for 25 years. They’re wonderful. Never had a better friend. Caring, smart, cuddly and happy. They’re the best pet, ever. Easy grooming. They let me know if there is spiders or anything in the house. Great with my son! I find this very misleading to people who haven’t owned one. Great company and thanks.. I’ll stick with my manxs

Have one and it has a tiny but visible tail… good pets. She loves to go out & hunt, and just relax inside with her other pets. Very unique. My grey spotted cat actually brings in more critters and birds than her

You just described traits that are true of most cats. Cats should be indoor pets, so the hunting thing isn’t an issue, they will bring you “dead” toys. My 19 year old Manx died 1 year ago today. He was a great cat, independent, playful, loyal. He did get a bit grumpy as he got older, most likely because of arthritis. I miss him so much.

I adopted a half Manx cat off the street. (We did put up found posters around and online no-one claimed her and she didn't have a chip. Beside she came in and just made herself at home and we couldn't say no)
She is the most friendly cat I've ever known. Because she's half she has a tail much like that of a Shiba Inu, where it clings to her body but otherwise she looks like a typical manx. She has to be held like a baby, because she is baby. That's the only thing she's fussy about, everything else she just doesn't care about she's chill with everything and everyone. She's never met a stranger, she's much like a dog. She's also very very intelligent. She can open doors and get to things she shouldn't. She's unbelievable. I love her so much.

I’ve had a male Manx cat for a few months now. He just showed up to my house one day and before I didn’t really know much about cats without any tails. When I saw a little shadow under the car i said “is that a dog??” But then a Manx cat appeared 😆.

I fed him once and that was it! He became ours! I decided to name him Nubs because his tail looked like a nub. Pretty soon that’s what everyone started to call him. 🤣 Nubs is a very vocal cat and is such a lap kitty! He’ll jump on your lap and just snuggle himself into you, he’s perfect. Manx cats are the best.

I accidentally adopted a Manx two years ago from the humane society, (meaning I had no idea what breed she was). What an absolutely amazing cat. The chillest, sweetest, friendliest cat that I’ve ever owned. I do feed her pumpkin purée with her regular food to help prevent an enlarged colon, which I understand is one of the issues that the breed can have due to the short spine. She is also a foodie and I have to keep her on a four ounce a day diet. I love her so much and am always grateful that I happened to adopt her, (instead of the dog I intended to get at the time).

This goes for just about all cats. Manx cat's ROCK!

Shinobi 2022-09-27 - 2:08 PM

I don't agree with most of these points. We own a manx cat and he's the most wonderful cat we have. He's very social, loves a cuddle, has never bitten, raised a claw or even gotten angry with us despite us worming him and using flee medicine. Of all the breeds we've owned, the manx is by far the best.

Baker Vinci 2022-10-18 - 4:19 AM

Great video and dead on. However, I have never brushed him. He is the best pet I have ever had. How do they respond to new Manxs

Baker Vinci 2022-10-18 - 4:23 AM

I love mine. He even brings his girlfriend over late at night through the cat door. He is fixed, but still a TOM CAT

Hugswithmuke notpuke 2022-10-18 - 7:17 PM

I have several Manx cats I have only had 3 that were born with a tail. You know how a lions tail has that ball of hair at the end my Pickles has that she is white with faint gray and the most beautiful blue eyes. If anyone knows why her tail is like that or if it has a name I'd very much appreciate letting me know

Mal 2022-10-22 - 4:40 AM

our manx tried for 10 years to be let in the house, so near christmas we gave up. she was destined to live a long life, she was the healthiest cat id ever seen, manx or not. I don’t like talking about her in the past tense, but its been 2 months and 5/6 days since I let her out that night. i don’t even know if ill be able to adopt another cat again and there hasn’t been a single day where I haven’t thought of her and the others since august

cody hildebrandt 2022-10-26 - 3:43 AM

So a maincoon is better? Oh wait it is manx are great hunters if raised but also great house cat but a maincoon takes the hunters trophy

kevinbenko 2022-10-26 - 3:55 PM

I have had two manxes in the past. The first one {a tailed manx} died at three years old from "Feline Infectious Peritonitis". The second one died at 10 years old from liver cancer. In my opinion, the problem is with pure breeds…. too much inbreeding. Every other cat {four other cats} have all been "mongrel cats" have died at 20 years old, 16 years old, and two are currently living and somewhat overweight.

PS: Cats are carnivores, if a cat runs out of food for three days, they start dying.
PPS: Dogs are omnivores and can last for about a month without food.

I do love the Manxes, though, they are super-cool. Since they have no tails, I call them ground-cats since the tail acts as a counterbalance

PPPS: The "tailed manx" is necessary for breeding, otherwise the manx-proper will have spinal problems.

kevinbenko 2022-10-26 - 4:04 PM

Concerning food for cats: I have two cats, I feed them "Science Diet" a 15 pound bag will feed my two cats 2 months and 0-2 weeks. It is more expensive, but in the end, it works as well as crappy cat food.

Mingle and Plei 2022-10-26 - 10:52 PM

I disagree with your video I had a manx cat that was an indoor cat and she was the best friend ever Fed her high quality food gave her lots of love a place to sleep where she felt safe and warm. Had sweetie for 14 years. Sadly I had to put her down after she had a stroke

CJS 2022-11-08 - 2:39 PM

I have a Manx and he’s the most amazing companion I have ever had. I HATED cats until him. I still don’t like cats but I love him to death. He’s so so so sweet. Let’s me do whatever I neeed to with him with no fuss.

Anah 2022-11-13 - 5:27 PM

Mostly true, but not entirely. (Long detailed info) I’ve had my pure bred Manx for over 10 yrs now. He’s a “lucky” tailed cat so I got him for free (Craigslist ad). If you don’t have tailed cats in the litter, usually the whole litter dies, so you always want to breed a tailed Manx with a tailless and never 2 tailless. The tailed cats in a new litter are the “lucky” cats as they are a sign the litter will survive.

When I got him I was told he’d be extremely active, needing the ability to run throughout life, will take down animals his own size or bigger when hunting (think large rabbits), and generally have the temperament of a dog. The breeder said he will run through adulthood and it’s really obvious when they are on their way out because their activity level drops off drastically.

He is extremely loyal to the point of heeling and coming when called and generally following me everywhere. I do buy midrange food, but also fed him raw when he was younger. Mostly grain-free, but he’ll tolerate some grains.

He molts 2x/year and needs brushing weekly otherwise.
I never give him baths unless he got into something. Baths are not good for their skin. Cats clean themselves and he is very anal about it.

He is EXTREMELY social and will visit all the neighbors looking to say hi and get some attention or take a nap on their couch.

I’ve lived in a million places and in a van and he tolerates changes extremely well. He loves living in the van and being able to free roam. He is never further than ear-shot away and always knows where home base is. I pop the “doghouse” (interior engine compartment) and he can fit between the engine and exhaust to get in and out, so I don’t have to leave a door open. We even go hiking together and he insists on walking himself even at 8 miles.

I trained him to be on a leash from the day I got him ~ 5wks old. He needs a LOT of play time if he can’t go outside (ie in the winter snow time). He has been known to be so stubborn he’ll hike in the snow. He definitely gets cabin fever in the middle of winter.

He’s learned 11 tricks and he picks them up very quickly. Usually in a single session. I also trained him to be “gentle” and not use his claws in playtime. He does very well with children or drunk people (same thing).

Ideally he’d be able to run outside every day. Their body is built to run, with long back legs and short front legs, allowing them to get close to the ground when they run. Like a cheetah. They top out at 30 mph so they need to be able to go off leash or have an indoor running track.

He is also very vocal and will talk to me and tell me when he needs or wants things. That prob should have been in the list instead of not tolerating changes. Not all cats are highly vocal.

He’s definitely a high maintenance animal and not one to be with other pets, just because of the level of attention they demand. That said, he gets along with dogs well, but has only had 2 other cat friends. His favorite friends are foxes.

I didn’t get him fixed til after his 1st bday and he is able to have dry food left out with no weight issue. Wet food is another story… I think fixing them later is a prob best for not having to worry about weight issues. Idk that it’s scientific, but it’s worked so far!

Other health problems possible (that should have been in the list instead of baths 🙄) include poor dental health (he’s lost all his K9s due to genetic conditions) and kidney disease, which we’ve managed to evade so far, despite him having a miniature kidney on one side. He costs me $500-800/yr in vets bills. Not enough for insurance, but enough to hurt.

I CAN TELL OU HAVE NEVER OWNED A MANX CAT BEORE! ALL OUR MANXS LOVED THEIR BATHS EVEN ASKED FOR THEM BY GETTING IN THE TUB. AS FOR COMPANIONSHIP THEY WERE ALWAYS BY OUR SIDE LOVED LAPTIME EVEN ALL T THE SAME TME. AND SLEPT UNDER COVERS WITH US EVERY NIGHT. THEY ALSO COULD PLAY FETCH AND WERE GREAT GUARD ANIMALS.
SO A LITTLE SHEDDING IS A SMALL PRICE TO PAY FOR THE BEST COMPANION A PERSON COULD ASK FOR!!!!!!

Could give you 😺 100 reasons why you SHOULD get a Manx cat! Have owned 9 of them since the 1970s. Very affectionate, sweet, loyal. Compared to many other breeds, I'd give the Manx 5 Stars ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

I have had a manx cat for a year now.. she is amazing and perfect. She is probably one of the neatest and most interesting cats I've ever had. It sounds like you are describing why you shouldn't have a cat..

#cajangirl001 2022-12-22 - 7:29 PM

I have a 9 year old Manx and he is wonderful! Every thing this video said is false! My manx is perfect! We have lost two homes, one from a flood and the other from a hurricane and my manx was very relaxed thru the transition of finding a new home. He does not shed, he does not bring me dead animals, he loves to relax at home and he loves me. He does act more like a dog and does not meow. He makes little sounds when he wants attention. He has not tail so sometimes stool gets stuck in his long hair by his bottom. All I have to do is pull it off with toilet paper, he is used to having this done. He is very fluffy with a silky black fur and his hind legs look like a rabbit's legs. His spine is deformed so his back is weirdly curved by this tail.

Ms HotMess the Pixel Witch 2022-12-25 - 12:49 AM

I really don’t agree with most of what this video says about the Manx breed. Manx cats aren’t actually high energy cats, they are super chilled & love to be cuddled. They are perfect indoor only cats who enjoy watching the world through a window or tv shows with animals that are interesting. They do love to play & are kitten like in that way, but don’t require endless hours of play (like Japanese Bobtails do). They are wickedly intelligent & empathetic to people & other pets.
Manx cats can have various degrees of manx syndrome or can develop tail/spine issues like arthritis &/or impingement problems as they get older, so it’s good to give them steps to reach the bed or window so they don’t get hurt, they are very delicate compared to other breeds.
Out of all the cats I’ve been lucky to have, my manx was my most special & favorite. I hope to be lucky enough to rescue another one day.

Mustang Sally 2022-12-27 - 4:28 AM

Lol, my little manx Tommiebug used to catch mice and skin them alive. It was horrifying but other than that she honestly was one of the sweetest funniest cats that ive ever had.

FishE 2022-12-30 - 3:50 PM

This person prob just has somthing against Manx cats or smth💀

David Monroe 2023-01-22 - 4:28 AM

Everything mentioned is true of every healthy and active cat. This is stupid.

Aco651 2023-01-28 - 12:30 AM

I never liked cats until I met a manx. I never knew cats could have such a cool personality. He liked playing fetch and loved being held on his back and having his belly rubbed. I had previously assumed all cats were very independent and distant from interaction. Manx's however, are like cat-dogs. I love cats now, in spite of my allergies to them.

Ann Sterzinger 2023-01-28 - 10:55 AM

I got a Manx by accident… for months I thought somebody had ripped his little tail off! Nope, just a Manx. Why some idiot left their 1500 dollar kitten in a shelter is still a mystery to me, he’s such a good dude.

brewerbeargirl 2023-01-29 - 4:52 AM

I have had my Manx cat for over seven years and he is awesome most of the time. He does follow me around and he knows exactly where to lay if he really wants to be petted or if he just wants to lay near me. He is so smart!!! He talks to me and I talk back to him and he understands me! He's always there if I'm upset like he wants to take care of me! There is such a strong bond between us!

Aaron Ingram 2023-02-01 - 1:38 AM

This is only for pure manx breeds. My manx bengal has taken in many stray kittens simply to teach them to hunt.
