==►Le Manx est une race ancienne originaire de l’île de Man dans la mer d’Irlande. L’absence de queue du Manx est causée par une mutation qui provient probablement de la population locale des chats à poils courts de l’île et, puisqu’il s’agit du gène dominant, s’est propagée à d’autres chats de l’île. Bien que les chats de l’île d’origine aient été à poil court, le gène à poil long a sans aucun doute été introduit pendant le long règne des Vikings, lorsque les beautés aux poils longs, qui sont les ancêtres des chats des forêts nordiques d’aujourd’hui, ont quitté les navires vikings et se sont accouplées avec les chats locaux. Le Manx est un chat qui travaille sur l’île de Man, il a donc un physique solide, une grande intelligence et un tempérament actif, mais pas hyperactif.

Les Manks ont été l’un des premiers chats d’exposition. Ils ont été présentés lors des premières expositions félines au Royaume-Uni. Leur héritage ancien se poursuit car ils étaient l’une des races fondatrices lors de la fondation de la CFA en 1906.
