Tonkinese Cats Test a Food Puzzle – Frustration 10 of 10 (info)
The Trixie Rod Board is for dogs, but this product was introduced some time ago implying it would be suitable for cats. (It is not!)
In this video, Jeannie and Astara who are experienced with more complex puzzles gave a go to test this one out.
The number of rods can be removed to accommodate difficulty. I removed about 5 rods to allow more space to open up and slide for easier discovery.
The quality of this product is wonderful, but it is not for cats.
The holes are far too small to get the treats with their muzzles, and the holes for reaching for the treats with their paws were not adequately sized even for small, dextrous adult cats.
When a treat would be scooped out of one hole, it would fall into another hole, or would fling into the side of the puzzle board where the rods roll, and then would become lodged in that space making the treat nearly impossible to retrieve.
This video serves as an example of a very edited down version of what went on during their puzzle sessions. Even for advanced puzzle experience, I felt far too frustrated that the rewards they could retrieve for their efforts was not encouraging for them. Alas, it is marketed for dogs, and I would love to see a version for cats. I wish it wasn’t marketed to include cats initially.
