A kitten suddenly came to our house. I used to be a dog person, but she completely melted my heart. A 5-month record of her rescue journey One day,
a kitten appeared. There was no mother or siblings. She was chasing a bird up a tree. I didn’t even know cats could climb trees. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I found her. She was tiny and completely black. She lived in our yard. Later, when I checked the backyard, I found a big hole dug there. It was the perfect hiding spot.

← Around here I didn’t know what to do. But I couldn’t just leave her there. So I decided to make her part of our family. It was just one hour after meeting her. Even I thought that was a surprising decision. I quickly prepared food and brought it to her. When I thought of stray cats, I imagined they’d be hungry and come close, but that wasn’t the case at all. She never approached me. She wouldn’t appear until I left the food and went back into the house. Even just watching from the window she’d notice me right away, so sneaking around was hard. If she noticed, she’d stare at me intensely. In the end, we never met face to face. I couldn’t approach her at all. Not even once. I gave her food every day for a week. During that time, her mother never appeared. And finally, I was able to rescue her. ※This was the first time
I could clearly see her face. We went straight to the vet, and she jumped up near the ceiling then hid as soon as we got home. It took five days before I could see her face up close again. Her name is Kurodama. She was a girl. She was just too cute. I thought I’d be able to hold her right away. But reality was totally different. There was something… What’s this? Heave-ho. I couldn’t even touch her. How interesting. I like this. So many things here. She loved playing in the sand. What? Take that! What? She played alone from 4 a.m.
Over here! She was always up to something.
Hey you. What? My life with a rescued cat was nothing like I imagined. But she was cute, so… oh well. Someday, I hoped I could touch her. I wanted to hold her in my arms. She kept hiding, but little by little she got closer. Living with a cat for the first time was full of surprises. She held her pee for days even though she was just a kitten. You shouldn’t look her in the eyes, and you should cover the cage with a cloth. So many things I thought, “No way!” Cats are mysterious creatures. That was my first impression. Until we went to the vet, I didn’t even know her gender. That was shocking too. When you adopt a dog, you start by asking, “Boy or girl?” Right? For a dog person, it was a whole new world. Hiss! She used to hiss, but then she started purring. She’s purring now. That means she’s happy, right? I didn’t even know cats purred. At first, I panicked—what’s that sound!? I thought it was my phone on vibrate. Or maybe the air conditioner breaking (sweat) Silly me. I kept trying to find the source. At first, I couldn’t even see her, but slowly she came out into the room. She finally started exploring. All the things around the room were there so she’d have hiding spots. She was timid and hid right away. Take that! Take that! You! What? What’s your problem? But she never ran out of energy. What’s this? She could play forever. I was always the first to give up. So weak! I tried to play with her whenever she was awake, thinking that we’d become friends that way. But… the kitten never slept. Weird. Aren’t kittens supposed to sleep a lot? Who said kittens sleep a lot? My kitten never slept at all (lol) I’m invincible! At first, she was very wary, but we gradually got closer. Hey, what are you doing!? Finally, we were face to face. I never imagined she’d sit on my lap. I never thought it would happen. From then on, she loved being held on my lap. This is way too cute. And just like that, the dog person completely surrendered. As someone who lived with big dogs, I was defeated by lap cuddles. But who could blame me? the 45kg dog is not going to sit on your lap. So that’s how I ended up offering my lap every day.
