7 Reasons You Should NOT Get A Korat Cat

Welcome to our video about the cons and negatives of the Korat cat!

In this video, we’ll be discussing some of the potential downsides of owning a Korat cat. While these beautiful and intelligent felines have many positive qualities, such as their loyalty and affectionate nature, there are also some cons to consider before bringing a Korat into your home.

One potential negative of owning a Korat cat is their high energy levels. These cats are known for being very active and playful, which can be great for some owners, but may be overwhelming for others. They require plenty of exercise and stimulation to keep them happy and healthy, which can be a challenge for busy or less active households.

Another potential downside of owning a Korat cat is their tendency to be shy and reserved around strangers. While they form strong bonds with their owners, they may be hesitant to interact with new people or in unfamiliar environments. This can make socializing them and introducing them to new situations more difficult.

Finally, it’s worth noting that Korat cats can be prone to certain health issues, such as kidney disease and heart problems. As with any breed of cat, it’s important to be aware of these potential health concerns and take steps to ensure your cat receives proper care and medical attention as needed.

Overall, while the Korat cat is a wonderful breed with many positive qualities, it’s important to consider the potential cons and negatives before bringing one into your home. We hope this video has been informative and helpful in making your decision. Thanks for watching!

All I have to say is I got a pure bread Korat and she definitely sheds a lot. She’s a shy baby but the most loving cat I’ve ever owned.

I have a cat that looks so much like a Korat, but most of these cons do not fit my cat, or only partially fit my cat, and it makes me wonder if my cat is a mix between a Korat and a Russian Blue.

As an owner of an adorable Korat named Greyson. Yes, these are true. My favorite is the intelligence since if my cat is left outside of my room for too long, or she just wants to come in. She'll open the door by pushing on the bottom, and also buy loosening the doors strength by putting her little claws/paws in the little crack between the door making it easier to open. Also, if it's really easy to open the door. She'll just nudge on the door and come in.

Reasons why these are true:

1. Rare Breed: I'm not very sure how to back this one up myself, as when I was young, my parents just got her from somebody giving away cats for money. She was also a wild cat before we got her. Which is probably why she always looks outside my window.

2. Shed: My Greyson does in fact shed, A lot. If I chill with her at my desk on my pc, and she sheds. I'll have a lot of hair on me. Most of my plain shirts like, black, and white. Have a lot of fur on them.

3. Intelligence: I already stated this in the "My favorite."

4. Loves to play: Greyson loves to play and will always put in some time to play with me if she is bored. At night I can also sometimes find her running around at full speed throughout the house.

5. Separation Anxiety: Not very sure about this one since she doesn't show much of it. But she will come to me a lot. Sometimes if she leaves for a minute, she'll just come back.

6. Talkative: She'll be talkative at times because if you talk to her, she might meow back or whatever. And she'll also come to you for attention where she'll tap you, and meow at you.

7. Agile: She loves to climb and jump all over the place. Her favorite spot to climb up on and jump on is definitely my gaming chair. She'll jump on it and claw on it as if it's one of those toys to file down cats nails.

That's it for my comment. It shared quite a few facts about my cat, Greyson!

Fun fact! Right now, Greyson is 6!

I found mine outside my house lmao my city has quite a few of them

My own korat was quite devious (frightfully smart, a real devil), very vocal and super bossy with other cats — as in, whacked and bit them for no apparent reason. However, he would back off as soon as he was being told to stop (with a calm but firm tone of voice).
He mellowed around his senior years though.
Whenever I spoke to him, he would answer back. 😉
He was very cuddly but only towards myself — so, rather exclusive in his affections.
He could open most doors, especially cupboards where he liked to forage or snooze.
He loved his giant cat tree and would climb at the very top, looking very solemn and "superior" 🙂
He had no sense of humour whatsoever (highly susceptible with a massive ego) yet was the funniest cat I've ever had.
All in all, a very loveable kitty with a strong, highly-strung temper.
The kind of cat one is unlikely to forget…ever. (passed away last year, aged 17)

I adopted my Korat, I don’t know how I got so lucky.

Can confirm that my Korat sheds SO much. More than my Persian.

@cutercills9x9productions9 2023-09-17 - 9:25 PM

Must say, I got my Korat from a black cat I adopted (I think Bombay). She was pregnant, and the shelter needed us to let the cat give birth in my home (a cat giving birth in a cramped store cage is not very convenient, especially if there are tons of other cats around). She gave birth to 5 kittens, one grey, two full blacks, and two blacks with white patches. The grey one was the first to come out. We adopted the mother and the grey one, but returned the rest, which were all adopted soon. The grey one was kind of aggressive to his brothers and sisters when it came to drinking milk and play-fighting. He often pushed aside the other kittens, and would also be rough to the other kittens. In fact, shortly after one of his sisters was spayed, while she was healing, he tore off her suture when they were fighting once. Luckily, she had healed for a long time, and the suture would have had to be removed soon, but she had to have medicine rubbed on her belly for a while, since it had not been torn out properly, resulting in some pus leaking from it for a while, and eventually she was much better.

After some research, I finally was able to narrow down the grey one to a Russian Blue or a Korat, and I must say, after seeing this video, I'm not surprised that he is a Korat, since he is always there to accompany me, sitting out of my office room when I do homework, being my alarm clock by meowing every time I need to wake up, and when I'm in a Zoom call or playing an online game, he'll jump in front of the monitor (but he seems to know whether there is another person live on the monitor, since he won't jump in front of me if I'm watching a video, but he will if I'm playing my favorite online game or speaking in an online call. From what many people see, he is the closest to me out of all my family, always sleeping on my bed when I'm in my classes, chooses my room to hide at during July 4th, and won't let others pet or hold him the way I do. While only his mother and him are with me today (his mother likes being alone often and bites people who try to pet her), he has been able to support me many times, is probably the closest relative to me, is always finding ways to spend more time with me, and one time, I was saved by him from a suicide attempt (tried to drink some mixture of poisonous chemicals because I was unhappy with my life, but I had to feed him, and after that, I lost my will to die, which was like 8 years ago).

His 9th birthday is coming soon, and I will never be able to thank him for all the support and love he's been able to give for me.

Korats for everyone, Best Cat Ever!

@mychinadaughters 2023-10-02 - 1:18 AM

Wrong! They do not shed if at all!!! Totally wrong. This is the reason I went with Korats was that they were the least allergenic.

The ones with orange eyes are Russian blues

@sharonturnell8204 2023-11-16 - 4:22 PM

The person who made this video knows nothing about the Korat! My Korat is very clever, he is a dog in a cats body, he doesn’t cry too much, he’s just beautiful

@Mathew8980 2023-11-17 - 11:16 PM

I think another cat or multiple cats could help for number 5.

@LegallyBlondeCritic 2023-11-30 - 6:36 AM

Got my korat at a shelter. She was running the streets as a stray and no one claimed her. Didn't know she was a special breed. She was just very friendly and vocal in the adoption cage. Got her a dsh playmate. Then someone at my vets told me she was a korat. She is constantly on my lap but sometimes climbs on tops of the kitchen cabinets.

@AnimalClinic-n3f 2023-12-02 - 8:29 PM

I feel like this would be the reason not to get almost any cat…my DSH kitties need all of this too!

@judyclarence 2023-12-19 - 3:23 AM

Viewers beware! Many, if not most, of the cats depicted here are NOT Korats! I even spotted a Scottish Fold! To be recognized as a purebred Korat cat, it must have a pedigree that can be traced to ancestors in Thailand. For more information, go to the Korat Cat Fanciers of America's website.

@Lorrenzo248 2024-01-11 - 2:24 PM

A mother cat which has different breed give birth a cute korat cat which I got it for free. Its really friendly but It got aggressive when I try to tickle it.

@stevenshipman6290 2024-01-12 - 7:52 AM

Korats are great can be a fair bit of work but they are so sweet. I miss Haru my korat siamesse friend loved pork playing in sinks and just being active

KORAT cats are the best cats I personally ever met in my life! They are highly intelligent, civilized, calm and quiet, don’t shed much at all , they have a beautiful unique soft blue gray velvet fur! They are playful and mature at 4yrs age! My BF was Kitty Kora a pure breed KORAT and the previous owners did not know how genuine and unique this cat is! She is suffering animal cruelty, abuse, abandonment and starvation! I had to intervene to save her life! I called Animal cruelty in NYC and they did nothing , they don’t care! She is suffering homeless with her beautiful kittens! They are all decent nonaggressive smart ,loving sweet civilized indoor CATS! They are ANGELS! This guy does not know a KORAT CAT at all! 😢 I hate NYC! Nothing but criminal lunatics here!

@Bozebo 2024-05-08 - 4:49 AM

So I have a Korat that doesn't look like one, great xD (a lot of those in the video aren't Korats?)

Yeah if I don't play with her enough, she will climb up the walls then dangle from the ceiling and be really loud for attention…

@Ram875 2024-05-22 - 3:25 PM

Was this based on three cats? lol. Mine is just the chillest and likes to stay indoors, she's smart and she hasn't damaged anything in my house, she's a sleepy head actually.

I guess it depends, that's what statistic's are for.

@Jenniferpascale101 2024-06-18 - 6:12 PM

I got my Korat Cat from Petland in pittsburgh, which is basically a shelter. We got a 6 month old korat cat for only 255$

@Thething964 2024-06-22 - 5:08 AM

My sister got a korat cat and she was literally the world's annoying cat. She was so loud and annoying and also very greedy. Korat is the worst breed ever.

@acabushka 2024-06-28 - 7:07 PM

i got my little girl for $5 in 2016 on black friday bc the shelter was full… she’s the most loving snuggly little alien i’ve ever encountered. she sheds a ton however she isn’t very agile… she fell from her tree once and didn’t land on her feet 🥺 i often describe her as undercooked

@leannettepuddy989 2024-07-22 - 9:31 PM

I found one of these cats in the dumpster so it was Free but it also looks like a Russian blue . It does get very jealous of other cats and loves to eat a lot. Is there any way to get DNA test and find out the true origin of the cat?❤ 🐈😺

@45182 2024-08-25 - 8:51 PM

Expensive? 😂😂😂😂😂 I got mine at the SPCA. $170.00

@aphyonidae 2024-09-21 - 7:21 PM

I have a korat, he loves to jump onto our shoulders randomly, dropkicks any door we're behind, and he opens all of the cabinets and drawers. I love him but he's a lot of trouble.

@chandacat 2024-09-21 - 9:08 PM

My Jaspurr was a korat that showed up at my house at 3 months. He did not shed. He was very smart and vocal. He just passed at 17 and I miss him so much

@ivo818 2024-10-12 - 6:12 AM

@kajaboleo9687 2024-11-03 - 12:28 AM

I literally found one on the street a month ago and realized it's this breed lol

@judyssoul 2024-11-26 - 6:54 AM

The cat distribution system in italy is insane. A korat kitten came to us with a sprained ankle in the night. He's a smart and very vocally affectionate cat. He's too smart for a 4 month kitten. He knows how to push the net windows up so he can be in the house with us.

@Azza-px1tg 2024-11-26 - 8:25 PM

My Tilly thinks she's a dog. Eats like a dog and keeps house like a dog. And of course she feels like the owner of the house and shows it. I love her, my princess!

@witchko 2024-12-03 - 1:37 PM

this video helped me realize our cat is a korat! every listed trait i was like omg? OMG?
i love our little rat bastard but yeah he can be a bit of a handful ^^ he was a rescue and i love him lots FOREVER

he has a high attachment to my brother to the point that he follows him to the door and cries loudly when he has to leave for work until someone else comes to play with him. He really prefers his chosen human though, i can tell because as soon as my brother comes home he zooms off my lap.

its really funny that hes a rare expensive breed because he was found in a box :y we call him trash cat sometimes

@BabyMonkeyDefender 2024-12-06 - 6:43 AM

My Korat doesn't shed. I can run my hand from head to tail and not one hair will be on my hand. It could be because I brush her every couple of days at least. But this video says they shed a lot. Not true.

@LorraineKropf 2024-12-20 - 10:58 PM

I have been privileged to own 4 Korats Cats,they do not shed !much, yes to fine fur, daily I comb and brush them.After my Siamese this breed is absolutely wonderful. I Live in Canada and both pairs have had dual citizenship. Not all your pictures in this article are Korats,!
